Step-by-step: applying through kynect
1. Gather your documents
Have the checklist below ready before you start. Missing paperwork is the most common reason applications stall.
2. Create a kynect account
Go to kynect.ky.gov and select Create Account. Kentucky uses kynect as the single portal for SNAP (food benefits), Medicaid, KTAP, and childcare assistance.
3. Complete the benefits application
Sign in, choose Apply for Benefits, and pick SNAP (food benefits). The application takes about 30–45 minutes. Save as you go — you can return to a draft.
4. Attend your phone interview
After you submit, DCBS will call you to complete a required interview. Answer unknown Kentucky numbers during business hours or you may need to reschedule.
5. Receive your EBT card
If approved, your Kentucky EBT card arrives by mail in 7–10 days. Benefits load monthly and work at most grocery stores, Walmart, and many farmers markets.
